Buying and Burning Firewood
Fuelwood: Safe, Effective and Affordable.
Islanders have traditionally used firewood as a cost-effective and readily available cooking and heating fuel. In recent years high fuel oil costs and concern over fossil fuels and climate change have increased demand for locally produced firewood.
Properly seasoned firewood provides good value for money and can help to improve the quality of the forest if it is harvested in an environmentally responsible fashion. This document is meant to be a general guide to several key factors Islanders should consider when buying and using wood to heat their home.
